For each program, there are four kinds of certificates:

  • Attendance Certificate

  • Full Certificate

  • Applied Certificate

  • Advanced Certificate

   How to obtain each certificate

• Attendance Certificates

A teacher receives a ‘Level 1 Attendance Certificate’ after attending 4 workshops of the same program (for example, 2 Sundays with 2 workshops on each day), a ‘Level 2 Attendance Certificate’ after attending 8 workshops etc…

• Full Certificates

A teacher receives a ‘Level 1 Certificate’ after attending 4 workshops of the same program and completing 2 written assignments based on the workshops, a ‘Level 2 Certificate’ after attending 8 workshops and completing 4 written assignments based on the workshops attended etc.. Each assignment is graded ‘Pass’, ‘Pass C’, ‘Pass B’ or ‘Pass A’. Written assignments that are not of an acceptable standard may be rewritten.

Applied Certificates

Submissions for the Applied Certificate can be made after attending at least 8 workshops (4 days) of a Language Teaching Professionals TESOL program. Each submission that achieves at least a ‘Pass’ grade is quantified as 4 hours. The maximum number of submissions is 5. The ‘Applied Certificate’ is issued after 5 submissions have achieved at least a ‘Pass’ grade The pass grades are ‘Pass’, ‘Pass C’, ‘Pass B’, ‘Pass A’.

Each submission should consist of one of the following

(A) A video or audio of the teacher in class teaching students of an appropriate age for the TESOL program. The video/audio should be a minimum of 20 minutes. The teacher also needs to write 500 words showing what he/she was aiming to achieve during the video/audio and lesson as a whole and assess whether this was achieved.

(B) A presentation to teachers at an official ETJ/FETJ/Language Teaching Professionals event. The presentation should not be shared with another teacher (having an assistant is OK) and should be at least 40 minutes. In order to get a grade higher than ‘Pass’, it is also necessary to submit a video/audio of at least 15 minutes of the presentation and write 500 words showing what he/she was aiming to achieve during the video/audio and presentation as a whole and assess whether this was achieved.

At least two of the submissions should be (A)

• Advanced Certificates

A teacher receives an ‘Advanced Certificate’ after attending 20 different workshops of the same program and completing 10 written assignments based on the workshops. Certificates are graded ‘Pass’, ‘Pass with merit’ or ‘Pass with distinction’. Written assignments that are not of an acceptable standard may be rewritten.

Note: All certificates and reports are sent as e-mail attachments every four months unless you need a certificate urgently for a job application.

   Assignments

Assignments are essays. They should be written in Microsoft Word or other similar software, saved as pdf files and sent to David Paul as attachments. The instructions for the assignment for each day are always the same. Choose some aspect of one of the day’s workshops and write about how it applies to your past, present or future teaching experience. For each assignment, it is necessary to write between 1,000 and 3,000 words. You will receive a grade for your assignment, but no comments. Assignments should not be copied from books, the Internet or other teachers. They should be your own work.
