Hello and welcome to our Nuthouse Education blog!

(If you are a visual person, there is a video at the end of this Blog with me showing these cool flashcards and being a little silly.)

The Nuthouse Team and I are very excited to be working with Language Teaching Professionals and would like to congratulate them on the new website!  Our goal with these blogs in a nutshell is to help you to get your students speaking on their own more naturally and using the language they have to communicate with you.  I will be doing various blog series throughout the year on getting kids speaking, how to get more students and how to improve your lifestyle by learning or honing some business skills.

This blog is the first in a series of blogs to give you some awesome ideas on how to get the most out of the Christmas theme.  At the end of the series, you will be able to download all of the flashcards that were used in the blog series so that you can try them out in your classrooms too so be sure to check regularly as I will be posting every week up until December.

Goal:

Materials Provided:

Key Points:

How to use the cards:

  1. Show the two cards to your students and say,”I have hot chocolate and cold milk.  Which one do you want?”
  2. Have students say,”Hot chocolate, please” or “Cold milk, please.”
  3. Say,”Here you are”, hand the student a ‘drink’ and have students say,”Thank you.”

Important Tips:

  1. When you hand the ‘hot’ chocolate or ‘cold milk’ to the students just touch the flashcard and pretend as though you are taking the hot chocolate out of the flashcard and pretend it’s very hot when handing it to them.  They will really enjoy their imaginary hot chocolate!!
  2. Using the Nuthouse Grammar Gestures will really help the children to remember the language!  If you are interested in learning more about these, then leave a comment below and I’ll be sure to do a blog about them.
  3. The Nuthouse Emotional Positioning Technique is a very powerful way to get young children talking more.  If you are interested in learning more about this, then also leave a comment below and I’ll do a blog series on this too!

Here is the video with a few more tips and silliness!

Who wants hot chocolate?!! Students will LOVE adjectives!
